The RCA Dome in the capital city of Indianapolis, Indiana has been the home of the NFL Colts since the 1984 season. In addition to Colts' home games, the stadium also plays host to 2006 and 2010 Men's Final Four, the Women's Final Four in 2005, and Indiana high school football's Circle City Classic. |
Ground breaking for construction of the RCA Dome occurred on May 27, 1982. The air-supported stadium is one of four nationwide including the Pontiac Silverdome, Syracuse Carrierdome, and the Metrodome in the Twin Cities. The indoor stadium includes 104 luxury boxes and seats a total of 57,890. The RCA Dome encompasses an area of 7.25 acres and opened officially on May 3, 1984.
The home of the Indianapolis Colts features a Astro-Turf 12 playing surface installed during the summer of 1997. That turf replaced the original surface (Astro-Turf 8) in use from the 1984 NFL Season through to 1997. Additional changes to the RCA Dome occurred in 1999 with a $23.7 million project to update the luxury suites, add five super suites, construct two club lounges with exclusive club seating areas, and relocate the press box to the upper level.
